In 2022, Zach Eflin ($7,800; 30.75 FPTS) was signed to a three-year, $40 million contract by the Tampa Bay Rays, the largest free agent deal in franchise history. And he was great, going 16-8 with a 3.01 FIP, 9.42 K/9, 1.22 BB/9 and 0.96 HR/9.
Things haven’t been so swell for Eflin this season, though, as the FIP was 3.69 while the K/9 plummeted to 7.1. As a result, the Rays traded Eflin to the Baltimore Orioles at the end of July. On Friday, he was making his third start for Baltimore, and it happened to be against the Rays.
And he dominated.
Eflin struck out seven in seven innings while walking one and not allowing an earned run on four hits.
The only run for the Rays came on a solo shot by Dylan Carlson ($2,500; 14 FPTS) in the ninth inning.
For the Orioles offense, Colton Cowser ($4,800; 14 FPTS) hit a leadoff homer in the first inning, Ryan O’Hearn ($4,600; 12 FPTS) drove in two with a single in the fifth inning, then Cedric Mullins ($3,500; 17 FPTS) hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.
