Serbia gave Team USA all it could handle, but in the end Captain LeMerica and Chef Curry helped rally the troops to lift the U.S. to a gold-medal game showdown with France in to a vintage performance.
And despite saying he never thought he would say this, Amin Elhassan said on Friday’s Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz that yesterday was the GREATEST moment in USA Basketball history! Move over Dream Team, move over Redeem Team. LeBron and Steph are here! We got to see LeBron and Steph being great at the same time on the same team, and Amin wants us to acknowledge that.
Despite that greatness, Mike still leans toward the Redeem Team because the Spanish team they vanquished in the gold medal game was really special. He says that Redeem Team narrative was legitimate and Spain was almost every bit as good as the Redeem Team. But Mike does admit it was special to see LeBron, Steph and KD all cooking at the same time on the same team and it was cool to see LeBron kick out to Steph.
Also, Amin wants us to remember that the Noah Lyles thing and his ongoing beef with NBA players hanging over everything made it so much more and made the stakes higher than ever. Although Mike is quick to point out that Amin’s rooting interest seemed less pro-Team USA and more anti-Noah Lyles. Although even the USA Basketball X account looked ready to seemingly body Lyles after he finished with a bronze medal in the 200M final amid being diagnosed with COVID.
