The Jose Berrios ($7,800; 29.55 FPTS) experience used to be Vin Diesel pressing the NOS a quarter mile at a time, as he would routinely strike out around 200 batters a season. Now, it’s more like flying Spirit Airlines with tons of turbulence. The K/9 is 6.83 and the FIP is 5.25 this season. He’s allowed at least five earned runs in five starts, with the most recent coming in his last start.
However, in the right matchup, Berrios can produce quality and stymie opposing offenses. He’s allowed three or fewer runs in 16 starts. On Friday, he faced one of the worst offenses in the league, the Oakland Athletics, and he delivered the goods once again, striking out eight in seven innings, walking one and allowing only one earned run on six hits. The lone blemish came on a home run by Darell Hernaiz ($2,100; 17 FPTS) in the third inning.
Offensively for Toronto, George Springer ($4,400; 14 FPTS) hit a leadoff home run, then Spencer Horwitz ($3,500; 22 FPTS) hit another solo shot in the eighth inning as the Blue Jays won 3-1. Horwitz finished the night going 3-for-4 with a double.
