Alright, time for the final two games of the Olympic Men’s Basketball Tournament. Team USA goes for Gold as a monster favorite once again against France, while Germany and Serbia will duke it out in the Bronze Medal Game. Let’s breakdown some betting angles.
Serbia vs. Germany
Germany +2 (-112)
I doubt I’ll bet this Bronze Medal Game, but gut call is a lean towards Germany. Honestly, from a matchup perspective, Serbia’s size should cause issues here, which is what will probably keep me away. That said, this is a tough spot for Serbia, and “bad spots” don’t happen often in the Olympics. Sure, both teams have to hit the reset button off a loss and try to Medal for their country. While Germany had the worse loss as a favorite, it’s a tough bounce-back here for Serbia after having USA on the ropes.
USA vs. France
LeBron James OVER 8.5 Assists (+100)
Two games ago we played this at O6.5 at plus-money, and James dished out nine dimes against Brazil. In a near upset by Serbia, we played LeBron O7.5 at plus-money, and he handed out 10 assists in a triple-double. King James has now cashed the over on his assist prop in four of the five games in the Olympics, and is averaging 8.6 per game. His lone under was a game with limited minutes due to the scoreboard, which I don’t see as an issue in the Gold Medal Game. LeBron is the engine for this team, and playing with such great talent makes it easy for him to distribute.
Guerschon Yabusele UNDER 13.5 Points (-125)
The former first-round pick of the Celtics has been balling out in the knockout round for his country. Over the last two games, Yabusele has finished with 22 points in 30 minutes against Canada, and then 17 points in 26 minutes against Serbia. He’s a huge reason France has an opportunity to compete for Gold.
That said, if we look back, Yabu played no more than 18 minutes in the first three games of this tournament, finishing with point totals of 13, eight and four. That’s more on par with the numbers he was putting up in the past for this team. With how well he’s been playing, I do think we should see more in the neighborhood of 25-30 minutes in this game, but it’s a much tougher matchup in this game. Going up against more size and athleticism is really going to work against Yabu, who also could be a liability when it comes to foul trouble. I see a very inflated point prop at the perfect time to fade.
