Logan Webb with the complete-game shutout

Logan Webb with the complete-game shutout

Logan Webb ($8,600; 37.65 FPTS) is not a flamethrower, averaging only 92.7 mph on his fastball. The K/9 is a paltry 7.65 while the swinging strike rate is only 8.1%. That said, he doesn’t issue many walks and doesn’t allow many long balls. The HR/9 is only 0.47 this season, and the only time it exceeded 1 was during his rookie season. What makes the analytical nerds giddy is the 2.95 FIP compared to the 3.72 ERA.

On Wednesday, he made everyone happy, except the Oakland Athletics and those rooting for them, because he pitched a complete-game shutout. Webb struck out six, walked one and allowed five hits. Granted, the Athletics are in the bottom third for hits and runs, but a complete-game shutout is impressive regardless.

While the Athletics only mustered five hits, the Giants only racked up four hits. But they were able to plate one on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
