The golf world heads to Paris, France this week for the Olympic Men’s Golf Competition. Le Golf National will be the host course, and measures as a 7,189-yard par 71 with Bentgrass greens.
There will be a field of 60 golfers this week, headlined at the top by some heavy hitters: Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, to name a few. In addition, there will be no cut and all golfers will play four rounds.
Below I have outlined my two favorite bets for the week.
Tommy Fleetwood to win (+2000)
The fact that Tommy Lad has zero PGA TOUR victories despite being one of the best golfers in the world is one of life’s biggest mysteries. However, he does have three DP World Tour victories to his name, one of which is very noteworthy, because it came at the HNA Open De France back in 2017 at the very same Le Golf National.
In addition to that win, Fleetwood, alongside partner Francesco Molinari, played exceptional golf at the 2018 Ryder Cup at the same course. Together, the duo dubbed ‘Moliwood’ won all four matches they played together in convincing fashion.
All in all, Fleetwood has always done his best work at European tracks, and in an event where we have only 60 golfers competing, this is as good a chance as any for him to pick up another win.
Fleetwood has no weaknesses in his game right now, ranking 12th in this field in SG: Tee-to-Green, 16th in SG: Ball-Striking and 11th in SG: Putting, all over his past 24 rounds. All the elites in this field are 12/1 or shorter, so we will gladly take our chances on the FleetGod at 20/1 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Alex Noren to win (+2800)
Another guy who’s had success at Le Golf National is Noren, who’s played the HNA Open De France four times since 2016. In those four starts, he’s posted a win (2018), a T18 and a pair of top-10s.
Noren is having an outstanding 2024 season as well, having made 14-of-17 cuts, with 10 top-26 finishes and three top-10s. He’s been especially good with his irons this year, ranking 14th in this field in SG: Approach over the past 48 rounds, while also sitting fifth in SG: Around-the-Green and 22nd in putting.
Noren is 42 years old and has never won on the PGA TOUR, but he does have eight career DP World Tour victories. He should feel right at home this week at a course he clearly loves, and in a field devoid of any real value, getting him at 28/1 feels real nice.
