Cole was schedule to face the Phillies on Tuesday, but the ace has been scratched from his start due to general body fatigue. In Cole’s place, Will Warren will start, which will be the 25-year-old’s MLB debut.
After finishing with the second-best ERA in the MLB last season at 2.63 and being named the AL Cy Young winner, Cole dealt with elbow discomfort in the spring and he has only made seven starts this season since making his season debut on June 19th. Furthermore, Cole hasn’t been great in those starts, with a career-worst ERA of 5.40. However, he has still shown a strong strikeout ability, with 38 strikeouts in 35 innings of work.
As for Cole’s replacement starter Tuesday, Warren was an eighth-round pick by the Yankees in 2021, but he has struggled down in Triple-A this season, with a 6.11 ERA. Warren likely won’t go deep into the game in his first-career start Tuesday and it is worth noting he is not eligible to be rostered for DFS contests on DraftKings.
Even with Cole’s health now foggy, the Yankees still boast the third-best odds to win the World Series on the DraftKings Sportsbook at +550.
