Fedde has been a popular name on the trade market with Tuesday’s trade deadline fast approaching and per the NY Post’s Jon Heyman, Fedde has been traded to the Cardinals on Tuesday as part of a three-team deal. St. Louis is also acquiring Tommy Pham in the trade, while Tommy Edman and Michael Kopech are being traded to the Dodgers and the White Sox are acquiring Miguel Vargas, Jeral Perez and Alexander Albertus.
After having a magical season in the KBO league in Korea last year, Fedde inked a two-year, $15 million deal with the White Sox and the 31-year-old has been excellent in Chicago this season, boasting a .311 ERA – which ranks 19th in the MLB – and a 7-4 record, while striking out 108 batters in his 121 2/3 innings pitched.
Fedde joins a Cardinals’ pitching rotation that is headlined by Sonny Gray and having Fedde under contract next season at an affordable price was obviously a big appeal in acquiring the pitcher. Adding a veteran like Pham, who is having a solid season with a .266 batting average is also a strong boost for this St. Louis team that currently sits one game outside of the final Wild Card spot in the NL. After this deal, the Cardinals’ odds of making the playoffs on the DraftKings Sportsbook have improved to +190.
As for the White Sox, acquiring Vargas in this deal is a terrific move for the struggling club. The promising prospect owns a .239 batting average in 30 games this season and should see a large role in Chicago.
Lastly, adding Kopech to their rotation was a solid move by the NL West-leading Dodgers. For the season, he owns a 4.74 ERA and 59 strikeouts in his 43 2/3 innings pitched. On the DraftKings Sportsbook, Los Angeles is the favorite to win the World Series at +330.
