Life is all about timing. To begin the year, Vegas ($7,500; 136.5 FPTS) missed the first three cuts and six of the first nine tournaments. Over the last three, though, Vegas finished 27th, 25th and 20th. The trend was his friend, but he eschewed the incremental improvements and leapt forward like a gazelle being chased by a cheetah at the 3M Open, finishing atop the field.
Vegas shot a three-under 68 on Thursday, improved by two strokes on Friday and went eight-under 63 on Saturday. Things were much different on Sunday, though, bogeying the first and last holes on the front nine. He did have two birdies to negate those. On the back nine, he had a bogey and a birdie before draining a birdie on Hole 18 to end the tournament 17-under and one stroke better than the field.
In the $800K Summer Sand Trap tournament, Vegas was rostered on only 7.25% of teams.
