Here are my favorite DraftKings Sportsbook picks for Saturday’s slate of MLB games.

Seattle Mariners at Chicago White Sox

The Pick: Seattle Mariners -1.5 (+114)

The Saturday Main Event isn’t headlined by Ric Flair — wrong woo. Bryan Woo is the headliner. He won’t apply the figure-four leglock, but he will lock up hitters. The Bryan Woo story is fascinating. His collegiate numbers at Cal Poly were mediocre if not bad. Many were shocked to see Seattle select Woo in the sixth round. The Mariners’ GM said he would have taken Woo in the first round with the first pick. What did he see? What we see now.

After an arm injury early in his collegiate career, Woo’s release point changed to the low slot. His arm is five feet off the ground when he releases the ball — a foot lower than the MLB average. Hitters aren’t accustomed to this. No one pitches this way. Batting machines and BP pitchers do not pitch this way. Woo’s teammates describe him as a sprinkler head pitcher. In addition to his deadly delivery, he added a second pitch in the minors. Instead of striking everyone out, Woo wanted to go deeper into games by getting quicker and more efficient outs. The addition of his two-seam fastball cut down on his strikeouts but it’s transformed him into an ace.

Woo can defend his heavyweight belt against any challenger. The White Sox are not the No. 1 contender. They’re jobbers. They’ll go out and let Woo get his pops in front of the crowd. Chicago lost 10-0 to the Mariners on Friday. The White Sox have a 24% K-Rate, .125 ISO, .270 wOBA and 72 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Arizona Diamondbacks

The Pick: Pirates Moneyline (+136)

The plus money is too hard to resist. The stats scream stay away. The Diamondbacks are a top-10 offense against left-handed pitching (112 wRC+). They have a .216 ISO over the last seven games. There are concerns. That’s why the Pirates are dogs. Those concerns may be exaggerated. Over that same seven-game stretch, Arizona’s wRC+ is 93. They’re not scoring. It’s hard to win without runs.

Marco Gonzales is the key. His strikeout prop is Over 3.5 (+115). The Sportsbook doesn’t believe in him. No one ever has. He was always overlooked in Seattle despite tossing over 1,000 innings and winning 60 games. His stats aren’t stellar but he eats innings and wins games. An Injury in 2023 ended Marco’s time with Seattle. An injury in 2024 delayed Marco’s time with Pittsburgh. He returned from the IL and held the White Sox to one earned run in five innings (four strikeouts). On July 21, Gonzales held the Phillies — a much tougher opponent — to two runs across 4.2 innings (four strikeouts).

Los Angeles Angels vs. Oakland Athletics

The Pick: Angels Moneyline (-125)

It’s baseball. Everyone loves stats. Sometimes we dig in too much. The nerds and the kids have taken over. It’s time for their stats to shut up. Tyler Anderson is not a Statcast star. The advanced metrics don’t like Anderson. He doesn’t like the advanced metrics. He just keeps doing his thing. He eats innings and limits runs. It’s nothing fancy and it never has been for Anderson. He suffered Coors Field for seasons before winning 15 games for the Dodgers in 2022 (2.57 ERA). Statcast didn’t like Anderson in 2022 (4.10 xFIP) because his strikeout rate was 6.95 K/9. The Dodgers loved his 15-5 record and 178.2 innings pitched. It’s baseball not a spreadsheet. Numbers go into Excel but there is an actual game on the field.

Anderson is a gamer. The 34-year-old pitches wisely and wins games. Oakland’s splits against left-handed pitching are strong — .209 ISO, .322 wOBA and 113 wRC+. The A’s have won eight of their last 11 games and are on their way to winning their fourth consecutive series. Anderson is a gamer. That’s why the 45-59 Angels are favorites. There are stats and there’s the game. If the advanced stats said it all, then Anderson wouldn’t have a career. Instead, he has a 2.91 ERA. He limits runs. That’s how games are won.
