The Twins are getting back a major part of their offense this Friday before they open a divisional series against the Tigers. The team announced that Royce Lewis has returned from his rehab assignment and will be reinstated from the IL.
Lewis has been outstanding when available this season, but has struggled to stay healthy. This time, he was sidelined with an adductor strain, which caused him to miss about three weeks of action.
This season, he has been limited to only 24 games, hitting .292 (26-for-89) with five doubles and 10 homers for a .430 wOBA. His 10 homers in 24 games give him a .393 ISO and have helped him produce 10.2 fantasy points per game.
On Friday, Lewis and the Twins are on the three-game turbo slate. Lewis has a $5,100 salary in his return and is a solid option at 3B in a favorable matchup in the Motor City. He played two games on his brief rehab assignment, going 1-for-6 with a double and a run scored.
The Twins are -175 favorites in Friday’s game as they send Pablo Lopez to the mound against Tigers rookie Keider Montero. Getting Lewis back and healthy will be a huge boost to the Twins in the playoff race. They start the weekend 4.5 games behind the Guardians with +185 odds to win the division and -400 odds to make the playoffs. They currently hold the second Wild Card spot one game ahead of the Royals, two games ahead of the Red Sox and 4.5 games ahead of the Mariners.
