The Orioles are adding to their rotation as they gear up for the playoff push, adding Eflin from the Rays on Friday, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand is also on the news and reports that the Orioles will send three minor leaguers back to the Rays.
Last year, Eflin had a great season in Tampa Bay. He made 31 starts and went 16-8 with a 3.50 ERA, 3.01 FIP and 9.4 K/9. Those numbers have taken a step back so far this season, and Eflin has only gone 5-7 with a 4.09 ERA, 3.65 FIP and just a 7.1 K/9. However, his strikeout rate has been up over his last seven starts, and he has held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in three of his last five starts.
The Orioles will add Eflin to the back-half of their rotation behind Corbin Burnes and Grayson Rodriguez. He will be a free agent after the 2026 season and is currently playing on a three-year, $40 million contract.
The O’s head into their weekend series against the Padres with a two-game lead over the Yankees in the AL East. They are currently -125 to win the AL East, +330 to win the American League and +750 to win the World Series, the fourth-best odds of any team behind just the Dodgers, Phillies and Yankees.
