The Dolphins and Tua Tagovailoa have agreed to terms on a four-year, $212.4 million with $167 million guaranteed, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The $53.1 million average on Tua’s deal is the highest on a four-year extension in NFL history and will make him the third-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL on a per-year basis.
The former fifth-overall pick has emerged over the last few years as an elite passer. After dealing with multiple injuries early in his career, he played all 17 games in 2023, totaling 4,624 passing yards with 29 passing touchdowns. He led Miami to an 11-6 record, but they lost to the Chiefs in the Wild Card Round, 27-6.
Tua is QB15 in DraftKings Best Ball drafts with an overall ADP of 111.2, but now that the contract situation is no longer a concern, his draft stock may rise.
The Dolphins start the season with a home game against Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars in a battle of two young QBs that got paid this offseason. In Week 1, Tua’s Dolphins are -3.5 favorites.
Long-term, the Dolphins have are +2200 to win the Super Bowl but have strong odds at -155 to make the playoffs. Tua also has the 13th-best odds to win the NFL MVP at +2500 and is +800 to lead the NFL in passing yards.
