After spending last season with the Clippers, Westbrook was traded to the Jazz earlier this offseason and waived, becoming a free agent. On Friday, he agreed to a two-year, $6.8 million contract with the Denver Nuggets.
Westbrook, who is now 35, played 68 games for the Clippers last season, averaging 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.1 steals in 22.5 minutes per game. He isn’t nearly what he was in his peak, but he is still a very serviceable option off the bench in the second unit. Ultimately, he’ll be replacing Reggie Jackson as the primary backup for Jamal Murray after Jackson was traded to the Hornets, who waived him earlier this offseason.
After the deal’s first year, Westbrook has a player option for 2025-26.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, The Nuggets are +950 to win the title this season and +450 to win the Western Conference. Westbrook is also on the board for the Sixth Man of the Year Award, where he is a +3000 long shot. Malik Monk (+475) is the favorite for that Award with Naz Reid (+650) also in the mix. Last year, Reid won the award while Russ finished tied for seventh.
