Falcons’ HC Raheem Morris delivered some great news for Atlanta fans Thursday, as he told the media that Cousins has been medically cleared from a torn Achilles he suffered last season. The quarterback will avoid the PUP list and be ready for the start of Falcons’ training camp, which isn’t something that was guaranteed for Cousins, given its been less than a year since the injury.
Cousins spent the last six years with the Vikings, before inking a four-year, $180 million contract with the Falcons this past offseason. The 35-year-old played in only eight games last season before going down with the Achilles, but in those eight starts, Cousins was efficient, averaging 7.5 YPA and throwing 18 touchdowns. From a fantasy perspective, the quarterback finished last season 10th in FPTS per drop back (0.53). Before his campaign was cut short, Cousins had thrown for over 4,000 yards and at least 29 touchdowns in each of the three previous seasons.
All in all, when the veteran is healthy, Cousins is a very reliable fantasy asset, that has the ability to bring the best out of his pass catchers. In Atlanta this coming season, Cousins’ presence should translate into career-best campaigns for Drake London and Kyle Pitts, who have struggled with consistency thus far in their careers, due to the inefficient quarterbacks they have played with.
Furthermore, Bijan Robinson, who racked up 58 catches last season — which ranked sixth among running backs last season — should flourish as a pass catcher with Cousins. Robinson’s current ADP of 6.7 in DraftKings’ Best Ball contests reflects this. The former Texas Longhorn should be one of the most exciting offensive players in the NFL this coming season, and at a price of +1200 on the DraftKings Sportsbook, Robinson is a very interesting bet to lead the NFL in rushing + receiving yards in 2024-25. Additionally, Cousins is also worth considering to lead the league in passing yards, at an appealing price of +1400 on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
