In the battle for NYC supremacy, the Mets prevailed in the minuscule two-game series. After defeating the Yankees, 3-2, on Tuesday, they left no doubt as to the outcome on Wednesday, as they methodically pushed out to a 6-2 win after six innings, then swept the leg in the eighth inning with a six-run inning.
Francisco Lindor ($5,900; 37 FTPS) had himself quite the night, going 3-for-6 with two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored. He was joined in the home run festivities by Pete Alonso ($5,300; 18 FTPS), Mark Vientos ($4,500; 16 FTPS) and Tyrone Taylor ($3,400; 26 FTPS). The home runs were the only hits for Alonso and Vientos, but Taylor had three hits, drove in two and scored three times.
The Yankees were like the guy at the gym with huge biceps but twigs for legs. The first two batters in the order both hit home runs while the rest of the lineup did diddly squat. Gleyber Torres ($3,400; 21 FTPS) went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run while scoring twice. Juan Soto ($6,200; 21 FTPS) finished 2-for-3 with a walk, double and home run.
Gerrit Cole ($9,400; 2.75 FTPS) had a tough night, allowing six earned runs in 5.2 innings. He walked two, struck out four and three of the eight hits allowed were long balls.
