The Knicks have made multiple moves to improve their roster heading into next season, and they continued their active offseason by locking up the man on the bench through the 2027-2028 season. Tom Thibodeau has agreed to a three-year extension with the Knicks, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Thibodeau led the Knicks to a 50-32 season in 2023-2024 which was good enough to get them the second seed in the Eastern Conference. They eliminated the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round 4-2 and then lost the to Pacers in a seven-game series in the second round. In the decisive Game 7, superstar Jalen Brunson suffered a broken hand.
Overall, the Knicks have gone 175-143 in the regular season and 14-16 in the postseason under Thibodeau. He turned the team around when he took over in 2020-2021, leading them to their first playoff appearance since the 2012-2013 season. He won his second Coach of the Year Award that season after also receiving the honor in 2011 when he was with the Bulls.
This extension will keep the 66-year-old around for the next phase of the Knicks’ resurgence. This offseason, the team has already added Mikal Bridges in a trade and re-signed OG Anunoby. Brunson also agreed to a very team-friendly deal that should keep the “Nova Knicks” together for the near future.
Headed into the ramp-up to preseason, the Knicks are +450 to win the Eastern Conference, the third-lowest odds behind just the defending champion Celtics and the revamped Philadelphia 76ers. They are +900 to win the NBA Finals this year under Thibs, who is +1600 for the Coach of the Year award.
