Will Tua Tagovailoa be the next QB to cash in? Or are he and the Dolphins still far apart on the potential terms of a new deal?
Adam Schefter told the Pat McAfee Show on Monday that Miami is not as close to a deal with its star QB as the Packers are with Jordan Love. And while the Dolphins have said he is their man, the question becomes how high are they willing to go when it comes to his salary given his injury history.
Of course, being a story about Miami, The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz had to weigh in and weigh in they did on Tuesday’s show.
Dan says he doesn’t think he’s ever seen a Dolphins player have this kind of swirl around them. Greg Cote says Tua has never been respected like he should be and the team is still disrespecting its franchise quarterback by making him twist in the wind and fight for his money.
Dan does wonder: If Tua went out into the open market, would he get the contract he desires? Does the NFL at large believe that he could do what he’s done with the Dolphins without having weapons such as Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle and a coach like Mike McDaniel? The answer is no, Dan says, right? He doesn’t get $55 million per year from somebody who just needs a quarterback, right?
Dan points out that the Dolphins’ title window is closing and they’re at a maximum win-now moment. Miami has +2200 odds to win the Super Bowl on DraftKings Sportsbook and +200 odds to win the AFC East. And yet, they’re not rushing to pay the franchise quarterback. Why?
