Beckham signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Dolphins this offseason, but the wide receiver is being placed on the PUP list to start training camp. Per the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Beckham Jr. is “working through minor things” and this is “part of the plan” in easing the 31-year-old back into action. After sitting out a year, Beckham Jr. signed with the Ravens last season and finished with 35 catches, 565 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games. Competing with Mark Andrews and Zay Flowers for targets, Beckham Jr. saw a 15.9% target share during his one season in Baltimore, but he did see promising usage in scoring territory, with 11 red zone targets.
Pelissero’s report suggests Beckham Jr. will be ready for the start of the season, but it’s hard to expect a big role for the veteran in Miami, playing alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Hill ranked second in the NFL in target share last season and Waddle also garnered a healthy 22.7% target share. Beckham Jr. presumably will operate as the Dolphins’ No. 3 receiving option when healthy and he will be an interesting target for DFS lineups if Hill or Waddle ever miss any games, given Beckham Jr. averaged a solid 0.24 DKFP per snap a year ago. For Best Ball drafts on DraftKings, the wideout should be available pretty late, especially after his placement on the PUP list. He’s a possible late round flier to consider if he appears to be trending in the right direction health wise before the start of the season. In DraftKings current Best Ball rankings, Beckham Jr. has an ADP of 206.1.
As a whole, the Dolphins are expected to be one of the best offenses in the NFL this coming season — they finished third in points per game a year ago — and on the DraftKings Sportsbook, they carry +2200 odds to win the Super Bowl.
