Kansas City Royals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
The Pick: Bobby Witt Jr over 2.5 H/R/RBI -120
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, Witt Jr has been on a TEAR since the second-half of the season began. Through four games, Witt Jr is hitting .800 (lol) and is 12-15 at the plate with two doubles, two home runs, six RBI and seven runs scored. So as you can imagine, he’s been going over 2.5 H/R/RBI quite often! To be fair, that’s normally a tough number to go over anyways, as unless you hit a home run, we usually need at least two at bats to clear this. Luckily for Witt Jr, he’s in a good matchup against the returning Jordan Montgomery. A knee injury sidelined him since last month, so this will be his first start since June 27. Montgomery has some horrific numbers against right-handed bats, which include. a .400 wOBA with a 4.92 FIP and all eight of the home runs he’s allowed. Witt Jr isn’t going to keep this pace up forever but my goodness, ride the wave while you can. If anything, the matchup sets up well for another big game from the Royals prized shortstop.
Baltimore Orioles at Miami Marlins
The Pick: Orioles run line -1.5 +100
The Orioles have the luxury of kicking off a series against the Marlins tonight in Miami. As I write this Tuesday morning, the Marlins don’t have a pitcher listed but are expected to recall Triple-A starter Kyle Tyler. He’s had very limited action in the majors but has thrown 50 innings in the minors and produced a nice 3.06 ERA and a 4.01 FIP. That said, he throws mostly cutters and that’s a pitch the Orioles have destroyed this season. On the year, tonight’s expected lineup has a ridiculous .520 wOBA with a .445 ISO through 191 plate appearances. Tyler doesn’t have big strikeout stuff either, inducing a lot of contact instead. I think that’s going to be a big issue tonight. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Orioles knock him out of this game early, which in turn means they’ve put a healthy number of runs on the board. They’ll be starting Albert Suarez, who is quietly putting together a really good season.
Boston Red Sox at Colorado Rockies
The Pick: Both teams to score 2+ runs through first five innings +100
In a game with a total set at 11 runs, I feel like getting both teams to score at least twice through the first five is a solid bet. We don’t have an overly imposing pitching matchup taking place between Cooper Criswell and Ty Blach, so I’d expect both offenses to get it going early. Criswell doesn’t pitch deep into games and is hard pressed to go more than five innings. So in that sense, do you believe he’ll allow at least two runs tonight? I certainly do. The Rockies offense is nothing special but they do have a lot of right-handed bats, which is been a problem for the Red Sox starter. He currently has a .352 wOBA against them. Blach has a .427 wOBA against righties and while the Red Sox are more left-handed heavy, their right-handed bats are big power hitters. I really like this bet and think we’re getting a solid line at even money.
