Friday PM update: The Spurs have lost, which means the Heat and Warriors just have to win to secure spots in the Summer League playoffs. San Antonio was likely to be left out anyway with the tiebreaker but the loss effectively seals its fate. As of this writing, Miami has a 41-point lead on the Raptors so the Heat are set to be in the playoffs. The Warriors will get going against the Thunder shortly.
Thursday PM update: The Grizzlies and Clippers both won, meaning they are at least going to be a part of the tiebreaker scenario for the playoffs. Both Memphis and LA have strong point differentials relative to the undefeated teams, so it’s unlikely they’d both be eliminated in that tiebreaker situation. The Spurs, Heat and Warriors all play Friday with San Antonio on the outside at the moment when it comes to point differential. There is a strong group of teams with only one loss should any of the remaining unbeaten teams fall.
NBA Summer League 2024 will wrap up in Las Vegas over the coming weekend, with four of the 30 teams competing for the championship. Every team that takes the floor in Vegas is guaranteed four games, and the top four teams after those four games go to the postseason. Here’s a look at where things stand heading into Thursday’s Summer League games.
The Miami Heat, Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors are all undefeated heading into their final game. None of those teams will face each other, meaning there’s a possibility of all five teams being undefeated by the end of their four guaranteed games. If all five teams are tied, the first tiebreaker to determine the four teams will be point differential, which currently favors the Heat, Grizzlies, Clippers and Warriors. The next tiebreaker, if any teams are tied on point differential, is total points through four games.
If any one of the teams loses its final game and the other four win, the four teams are set. If multiple undefeated teams lose, it opens up the opportunity for one of the 11 teams which currently sit at 2-1 to get into the Summer League playoffs.
