College Football Best Bets: Odds, Predictions to Consider on DraftKings Sportsbook for the Liberty Flames

Updated:

By: Julian Edlow

We’ve got a heavy favorite in Conference USA in college football this season, but I think the juice is worth the squeeze in this situation. Futures on the Liberty Flames are a popular play on DraftKings Sportsbook this summer. I’ll breakdown exactly how I’m backing the Flames and why.

Conference USA Championship Game Winner: Liberty (-175) — 2-units

The bar is set pretty high for Liberty entering 2024, following a 13-0 team in 2023 that’ll return 14 starters. While the Flames ran the table with a pretty easy schedule, they had a bit of a reality check in their Bowl Game against Oregon, falling 45-6.

Given the new playoff format, there’s some speculation that Liberty could sneak in the field if they were go go undefeated again. However, fair or not, I could see that final score against the Ducks sticking in the minds of many when it’s time to select bids.

A play on over 10.5 wins is another popular bet on Liberty this season. The Flames play the easiest schedule in the entire country — likely a short underdog at Appalachian State, and then a heavy favorite in the other 11 games. While 11 or 12 wins seems likely, Liberty could easily lose that game at App State, and I don’t want them to have to go perfect the rest of the way to cash.

That’s why I’m looking to simply back the Flames to win the C-USA Title Game. Liberty is as close to a sure thing to play for their conference championship as any team in the country. If we want to use the odds up on DraftKings Sportsbook as a tool towards our handicap, you’ll see Liberty is -500 to reach the C-USA Title Game — the next largest favorite is Ohio State to reach their title game at -240. It would take a catastrophe for the Flames not to be playing in this game, and they’d be much larger than a -175 favorite come December.

With QB Kaidon Salter back in the mix, and flanked by some dangerous weapons on offense, Liberty should be in position to dominate C-USA play. The gap between the Flames and the rest of the competition is significantly wider than any other conference in college football. So much so, that I’ll lay -175 on the conference ahead of the season. We should only be watching the number grow for months.
