Soccer Picks Today: Soccer Best Bets, Predictions, Odds on DraftKings Sportsbook for July 5

The Euro 2024 quarter-finals will commence on Friday, with the first two contests set to take place. Up first will be the host nation Germany taking on Spain, followed by a heavyweight matchup in France vs. Portugal. There is also the second Copa America quarter-final, with Canada hoping to advance as they take on Venezuela.

Below are some of my favorite bets for Friday’s international soccer slate on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Spain To Advance (vs. Germany) (-115)

Unlike the Copa America, the Euros will have extra time and penalties during the quarter-finals, so I’m taking the safe route here by taking Spain to advance instead of taking their moneyline (+165). Spain has definitely beaten the eye test so far, and in my opinion, looks like the team to beat in this competition. This game will certainly be their toughest test so far, as it will feel like an away match, given that they are playing the tournament hosts in Germany.

Despite not having the crowd advantage, I think Spain will have the most important advantage, which is the quality of the players on the pitch. They have been brilliant so far, winning every game in arguably the hardest group in the tournament. They went on to beat Georgia 4-1 in the round of 16, who were happy just to have made it that far. Germany has had a similar path so far, but they did tie their last group game against Switzerland before beating Denmark 2-0 in the round of 16. Not only is Spain looking like the better of the two teams so far, but they match up great against Germany historically. They are unbeaten against the Germans in each of their last four matchups, which is highlighted by a 6-0 win by the Spaniards in 2020.

France Moneyline (vs. Portugal) (+135)

France has yet to get into their full stride in this tournament so far, as they have been lacking goals. However, they’ve still made it this far fairly comfortably, and without losing a game. Their defense has been rock solid, spearheaded by the young William Saliba. The French have only given up one goal in four matches, which happened to be from the penalty spot.

Portugal come into this game with a little more uncertainty, as their last two performances have not been good. They struggled against Georgia in the last game of the group, losing 2-0, but that could be brushed aside as they had already qualified, and therefore benched most of their starters. The real alarm bells for Portugal came in the round of 16, where they drew 0-0 with Slovenia and needed a penalty shootout to advance. They failed to score in 120 minutes of open play (including extra time) and almost got knocked out of the competition altogether, with an amazing save from their goalkeeper Diogo Costa in extra time to keep Slovenia from scoring in a one-on-one situation. The French are ranked #2 in the world for a reason, and I think they will continue to show why with a win over Portugal. I could see this game being low-scoring, but ultimately I think the French will win by the end of the 90 minutes.
