Paraguay and Brazil meet in the second group stage match at Copa America 2024 with both sides looking to recover from a tough opening contest. Paraguay suffered a 2-1 defeat against Colombia to start the competition while Brazil looked out of sorts in a 0-0 draw against Costa Rica. The Selecao entered this tournament as one of the favorites despite missing Neymar, but they’ll have to prove they are still the heavy hitters many believe them to be after a lackluster scoreless draw.

Paraguay fell behind 2-0 in the first half to Colombia but showed some admirable fight to get a goal back and put pressure on the opposition late. Paraguay didn’t have much possession in the game but still managed as many shots and shots on target as Colombia. Brazil, on the other hand, came up empty despite completely bossing the game against Costa Rica. There was a goal which VAR did overturn, and Brazil fans might have a legitimate gripe as to whether it should’ve been.
There are no injuries on either side. Paraguay’s Gustavo Velazquez and Andres Cubas are both one yellow card away from a suspension, as is Brazil’s Eder Militao. We’ll see if that influences how the managers deploy their lineups.
Brazil has won its three of the last four matches against Paraguay, and is unbeaten against its South American neighbor in the last nine. Even after the rough performance against Costa Rica, I’ll take the favorite to bounce back and get three crucial points from this clash.
