The Philadelphia Phillies look to improve upon the league’s best record on Thursday when they host the Miami Marlins with Zack Wheeler looking to make his case for the Cy Young Award.

Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies (-285, 7.5)

Wheeler gave up six runs in four innings the last time he faced the Marlins, though that start on May 12 was on the road, where most of his struggles have come.

For the season, he has a 2.73 ERA with 9.7 strikeouts and 2.6 walks per nine innings with a 3.33 fielding independent, which shrinks to a 1.66 ERA at home but a 4.25 ERA on the road.

Dueling against him is Trevor Rogers for the Marlins, who is just 1-8 this season with a 4.90 ERA and 7.2 strikeouts and 3.8 walks per nine innings.

Rogers is allowing 1.5 home runs per nine innings on the road this season and faces a lineup that ranks fifth in the league in home runs per game and first in runs per game at home with 5.5.

Backing up Rogers is a bullpen that ranks 21st in the league with a 4.13 ERA while the Phillies rank fifth in bullpen ERA overall this season. But, they’ve led the league with a 2.12 ERA in the bullpen since May 1.

While the Marlins rank last in the National League in scoring with 3.5 per game, they have averaged four runs per game against Philadelphia this season.

The Marlins have had difficulties at the plate this season and Wheeler has allowed at least three runs in three of his past six regular season starts against Miami. With the way the Phillies are scoring at home, too, there should be plenty of runs on the board on Thursday.
