Group C at Euro 2024 features previous Euro finalists England and semifinalists Denmark, while Serbia and Slovenia will likely be competing for the third-place spot which has the potential for advancement to the knockout round. However, there’s always the possibility these less prominent soccer nations can spring a surprise when they come into a major competition under the radar.

It looked like the Danes were going to cruise to an easy win when Christian Eriksen scored in the 17th minute to open his Euro 2024 account. Eriksen is back at the Euros after suffering a cardiac arrest during a group stage match in the summer of 2021, so it was great to see him get on the scoreboard. Despite controlling much of the possession, Denmark was unable to prevent a late Slovenia goal with Erik Janza providing the equalizer.
England 1, Serbia 0
Jude Bellingham’s impressive header early in the first half proved to be the difference for England in this game. The Three Lions had plenty of chances to attack Serbia and were successful in creating opportunities but couldn’t quite get the finishing touches right. Serbia did eventually settle into the game and make things interesting, but England’s back line held firm during pressure situations and eventually were able to just see things out.
Slovenia 1, Serbia 1
This could’ve been a crucial three points for Slovenia to strengthen their case for the knockout stage but Luka Jovic rescued Serbia’s hopes with a goal in stoppage time. Serbia have not looked solid in the final third to start this tournament, and nearly gave away all the points in this one despite controlling most of the possession and creating most of the chances.
Denmark 1, England 1
Harry Kane got the scoring going for England, who appeared to be in control until a poor pass and a ridiculous shot from Morten Hjulmand put the Danes on level terms. Denmark were the more aggressive side from that point on, getting more shots and testing England’s back line more frequently. Both sides will be alright with a draw but Denmark will feel it missed an opportunity to better position itself for the knockout stage.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in what turned into a contest where England held most of the possession but failed to do anything with it. Slovenia are behind Denmark as things stand thanks to UEFA rankings, since all the other tiebreakers are even. They will likely need other results to secure qualification among the third-place teams. As things stand, England are through to the knockout round.
Denmark 0, Serbia 0
The scoreless draw is enough for Denmark to take the second spot in the group ahead of Slovenia thanks to UEFA rankings. Serbia has been eliminated after failing to kickstart its offense against a tough Danish outfit. We’ll see if England and Denmark can do more damage offensively in the knockout round after some lackluster showings in the group stage.
