Cole Ragans, Kansas City Royals vs. Miami Marlins ($10,100) — This is a terrible spot for Miami. Every spot is terrible for their weak offense but this one is bad — .102 ISO, .264 wOBA and 68 wRC+ vs. LHP. Teams with weak offenses generally struggle against every pitch, but hitting fastballs is typically their fatal flaw. Miami ranks 29th vs. the fastball. Cole Ragans is a flame thrower who strikes out 29% of batters (3.30 SIERA). His secondary pitch is the changeup. Miami ranks 26th against the change.
Value
James Paxton, Los Angeles Dodgers at Chicago White Sox ($7,700) — There are several intriguing value options on Monday’s slate. Luis Medina ($5,500) has good stuff but often lacks control. Carson Spiers ($6,400) is in a rematch with the weak-hitting Pirates, but it’s in Cincinnati. The world-famous knuckleballer Matt Waldron ($8,300) is affordable. The safest option is Paxton. He struck out eight and allowed one earned run at Coors Field in his last start (31.95 DKFP). His advanced stats aren’t great, but he’s 7-1 with a 3.65 ERA and is in a great matchup.
INFIELD
Stud
Corey Seager, Texas Rangers at Milwaukee Brewers ($5,200) — Targeting Freddy Peralta ($9,500) seems like a bad idea. Most will not dare, but it pays to be bold. Peralta’s put-away pitch is his changeup. Seager is one of the best changeup hitters in baseball. The left-handed hitter has a .231 ISO, .370 wOBA and 140 wRC+ vs. RHP and will benefit from hitting in Milwaukee’s hitter’s park.
Spencer Steer, Cincinnati Reds vs. Pittsburgh Pirates ($4,500) — Cincy is a steal. The Reds are projected to score 4.9 runs in the hitter’s paradise in Cincinnati on Monday night. The park is small and the opposing pitcher is weak. SP Bailey Falter ($6,800) is a flyball pitcher who doesn’t miss bats (6.1 K/9). Steer has a .230 ISO, .373 wOBA and 137 wRC+ vs. LHP.
Value
Vinnie Pasquantino, Kansas City Royals vs. Miami Marlins ($4,300) — SP Roddery Munoz ($6,600) is an intriguing pitcher. He can blow up (24% K-Rate) or get blown up (2.8 HR/9). He’s imploded in three of his last four starts. Pasquantino is not a world-beater, but the left-handed hitter is serviceable (.184 ISO, .320 wOBA and 104 wRC+ vs. RHP) and is in a great matchup.
Jeimer Candelario, Cincinnati Reds vs. Pittsburgh Pirates ($4,300) — The switch hitter has done most of his damage against right-handed pitching (.307 ISO and .364 wOBA). That’s fine. The southpaw on the mound won’t last long in Cincinnati. The Candy Man has been sweet in June — .368 ISO, .445 wOBA and 186 wRC+.
OUTFIELD
Stud
Fernando Tatis Jr., San Diego Padres vs. Washington Nationals ($5,600) — It’s uncertain whether Tatis will start Monday. He was available to pinch-hit on Sunday. A matchup against Patrick Corbin ($5,800) seems like a great spot to return to the lineup. Over his career, Tatis has a .389 wOBA and 151 wRC+ vs. LHP. This season he’s been ice-cold in the split. Positive regression should occur and this matchup could be the start.
Marcell Ozuna, Atlanta Braves at St. Louis Cardinals ($6,000) — The Braves’ lineup is heating up. SP Lance Lynn ($7,900) is getting blown up. In his last three starts, he’s allowed 12 runs and 20 hits in 13.2 innings. In 222 at-bats vs. RHP, Ozuna has a .333 ISO, .420 wOBA and 173 wRC+.
Value
Jurickson Profar, San Diego Padres vs. Washington Nationals ($4,000) — Set your calendars. DK Network contributor Steve Buchannon will tweet about Patrick Corbin today. Corbin is allowing a .384 wOBA and 4.64 xFIP to right-handed batters. Profar has a .214 ISO, .440 wOBA and 193 wRC+ vs. LHP.
MJ Melendez, Kansas City Royals vs. Miami Marlins ($4,300) — Which Roddery Munoz shows up on Monday night? It doesn’t matter. Good Munoz struggles with left-handed batters — .474 ISO, .477 wOBA and 5.14 HR/9 in 14 innings. Melendez has a .220 ISO vs. right-handed pitching.
