The United States men’s national team will begin its Copa America 2024 campaign Sunday evening when it faces Bolivia in group stage action. The Americans come into this competition with some added pressure as the hosts, but they do get a relatively easy start to the tournament with one of the lower-ranked sides per FIFA in Bolivia. The South American side enters this match having lost its last three international matches.

United States is the much better side on paper, coming into this Copa America opener after a draw against Brazil. The Americans did suffer a bad loss to Colombia after their run in the Nations League but should get a boost in front of their home crowd. Bolivia is in poor form, losing its last three and five of its last six matches. There was a 1-0 win over Andorra in a friendly but that’s nowhere near the level of talent the opposition has in this competition.
Tyler Adams and Josh Sargent were injury concerns for the Americans heading into the tournament but are good to go. Manager Gregg Berhalter said there are no issues on that front for the United States. Bolivia is also good when it comes to injuries.
One thing the Americans will have to adjust to is the physical nature of Bolivia’s playing style. Bolivia committed 43 combined fouls across its last three matches, garnering seven yellow cards and one red card in that span. Once USA overcomes that aspect of the game, the Americans are the more talented side by a decent margin and should be able to get all three points in this clash.
