Mexico vs. Jamaica: Picks, predictions, team news for Copa America 2024 group stage match

El Tri will begin Copa America 2024 action Saturday evening with a meeting against Jamaica in Group B. These sides played in the Gold Cup last summer with Mexico grabbing the 3-0 win en route to the title. Jamaica come into this contest winning its last three international matches, making this an early test for a Mexico team that doesn’t bring as much experience as past sides to the competition.

Here’s what you need to know for the match, with odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

Mexico v. Jamaica

Date: Saturday, June 22
Time: 9 p.m. ET
TV channel: FS1, Univision
Livestream: fuboTV, TUDN

Moneyline odds

Mexico: -210
Draw: +340
Jamaica: +600

Moneyline pick: Mexico -210

This Mexico team will look to make its mark without the headliners, as goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and striker Hirving Lozano are not in the squad for Copa America 2024. Mexico come into this game having lost its last two contests by a combined 7-2 score. Couple that with Jamaica’s ability to push El Tri’s back line with its explosiveness and this could actually be a much closer contest than the odds suggest.

There are no injury concerns for either side but Mexico are without some key talent as mentioned above. Jamaica are also missing an important player with Leon Bailey refusing the call-up to the international side. There’s a lot of options at forward for the Jamaicans but Bailey is going to be tough to replace.

Even though I do believe Jamaica is a quality side, I think this Mexico team will look to rebound from a pair of somewhat embarrassing losses with a strong performance here. Give me El Tri to start Copa America strong with a win in this matchup.
