Austria vs. France: Picks, predictions, team news for Euro 2024 group stage match

Group D action at Euro 2024 continues Monday with Austria taking on France in another heavyweight clash. Austria are hoping to build on some stellar performances on the international stage of late, while France look to make another deep run in a major event after appearing in the 2022 World Cup final.

Here’s what you need to know for the match, with odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

Austria v. France

Moneyline odds

Austria: +500
Draw: +350
France: -190

Moneyline pick: France -190

Austria saw a run of six straight wins in international play end with a 1-1 draw against Switzerland last time out. That winning streak featured impressive wins over Germany, Serbia and Turkey, and Austria do bring plenty of experience to this competition. France have not had as much success in Euros as they have in World Cups of late but enter this tournament as co-favorites to lift the title. France is coming off a 0-0 draw against Canada after some decent wins over Chile and Luxembourg.

David Alaba is still recovering from a torn ACl and therefore will not be available for Austria in this competition. France will be without Lucas Hernandez and Aurelien Tchouameni, while there’s questions about whether Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappe will play together up front.

The midfield battle will be interesting, with Austria deploying Marcel Sabitzer and Christoph Baumgartner while France counters with N’Golo Kante and Eduardo Camavinga. Mbappe should put plenty of pressure on Austria’s back line and without Alaba, that’s a tough matchup for the underdogs. I’ll take France to start out Euro 2024 with a win, although I think it’ll be much closer than the odds suggest.
