The Boston Celtics are one win away from the franchise’s 18th banner after a 106-99 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 3 of the 2024 NBA Finals. The Celtics had a big lead and withstood a late surge from Dallas to take a commanding 3-0 lead and effectively end the series. No team has ever come back in the NBA playoffs from a 3-0 deficit, so the real question now if who will be the Finals MVP when the Celtics do secure the title.
Here’s a look at the latest odds to win Finals MVP courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook after Boston’s win Wednesday.
2024 Finals MVP odds
Jaylen Brown: -280
Jayson Tatum: +250
Luka Doncic: +2500
Kyrie Irving: +8000
Jrue Holiday: +8000
Derrick White: +10000
Brown has been impressive through all three games and is now the clear favorite to win Finals MVP, while Tatum’s offensive explosion in Game 3 was not enough to make up for his relatively poor showings scoring the ball. Tatum has still been impactful in other areas and if he goes for a big number in the final game of a sweep, that might still push the award back in his favor. Holiday and White remain on the fringes, while Kristaps Porzingis’ injury takes him out of the running. The big man seemed primed to win as a longshot after Game 1 but it was not meant to be.
Doncic and Irving are still being offered but they haven’t played well enough to become the first player since Jerry West to win a Finals MVP despite being on the losing team. They won’t be considered if they get swept, and it seems impossible for Dallas to win even two games in a row let alone four. With that stark reality setting in, there’s no point in even looking at Doncic or Irving for Finals MVP.
