Major League Baseball goes global this weekend with the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies playing a two game series in London with the first game happening Saturday afternoon.

Philadelphia Phillies (-162, 10) vs. New York Mets

This is the third series being played by MLB teams in London with an he most recent series being between the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs last season and the commonality in all these games has been run scoring.

Because London Stadium was set up as an Olympic-style stadium, it is built in a way to block out a lot of elements, wind especially, that can disrupt a baseball’s flight path and the fences are out at 330 feet at the foul polls and 392 feet to dead center field, shorter than any MLB ballpark.

The 392 foot centerfield fence is actually pushed back from the 385 feet it was when the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees came to London in 2019, with 50 total runs being scored in that two game series.

Last season the games between the Cubs and Cardinals were a bit more tame with 22 total runs being scored between the two games, but coming to town is a Mets team that leads the league in runs scored away from home.

The Mets are the lowest scoring team in the National League at home with 3.5 runs per game while hanging nearly 5.5 runs per game on the road and will look to get to Phillies starting pitcher Rangers Suarez.

Suarez enters as the National League leader in ERA among qualifying pitchers at 1.70 with a 2.65 fielding independent, having allowed more than two runs in just two of his past 11 starts and more than three runs just once all season.

On the other end, Sean Manaea gets the start on the mound for the Mets, posting a 3.63 ERA with a 3.42 fielding independent, but has to face a Phillies lineup that leads the National League in scoring with 5.1 runs per game.

With the Mets bullpen having allowed 35 total runs in the eighth inning or later in the past 14 games and a 5.48 bullpen ERA the past 30 days, this London Aeries set up for an action-packed start at the plate.
