Reigning WBO strawweight champion Oscar Collazo (9-0, 7 KOs) is set to defend his belt opposite Gerardo Zapata (14-1-1, 5 KOs) this Friday, June 7. The 12-round bout gets going live from the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. DAZN will stream the fight with main card coverage starting at 8 p.m. ET.
Collazo enjoyed a stellar amateur career, capturing five national titles and winning gold at the 2019 Pan American Games. The 27-year-old from New Jersey defeated Melvin Jerusalem back in 2023, securing the WBO strawweight belt. Since then, “El Pupilo” has defended the title twice, including a third-round TKO win over Reyneris Gutierrez.
Zapata enters with six years of professional experience, starting up in his native home of Nicaragua. After starting 14-0, the 29-year-old has gone 1-1-1 in his last three fights. Zapata’s last fight against Azael Villar ended in a spilt draw.
