The Boston Celtics immediately set the tone in the 2024 NBA Finals, taking down the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 107-89 to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. It was the fourth consecutive Game 1 win for the Celtics, while the Mavericks reverted to their Game 1 woes from previous series.
Here’s a look at the latest odds to win Finals MVP courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook after Boston’s impressive showing in the series opener.
2024 Finals MVP odds
Jayson Tatum: +120
Jaylen Brown: +300
Luka Doncic: +360
Kristaps Porzingis: +700
Kyrie Irving: +4500
Derrick White: +7000
Jrue Holiday: +12000
Al Horford: +35000
P.J. Washington: +50000
You get big swings after just one game, and the biggest swing comes from Porzingis. He opened the series at +3500 and is proving to be a worthy longshot bet for those who took him at that number. Porzingis dominated Game 1 in his return to the floor for Boston, logging 20 points, six rebounds and three blocks off the bench. He’s likely to start Game 2. Jayson Tatum entered the series as the favorite and remains so, but now comes with a decent odds bump at +120. Jaylen Brown has overtaken Luka Doncic for the second spot by a slight margin.
On the flip side, Mavericks veteran point guard Kyrie Irving’s odds plummeted from +2200 ahead of the series to +4500 after Game 1. Irving struggled in front of the raucous Boston crowd, shooting 6-19 from the floor and missing all five of his three-point attempts. He’s going to have to play better if Dallas wants to get back in the series. Doncic logged 30 points and 10 rebounds but only managed one assist as his teammates didn’t provide much help. Derrick Jones Jr. has been taken off the board for Finals MVP.
