Tanner Houck and Jake Woodford make for quite an odd matchup. Houck has blossomed into the All-Star Boston hoped he might be. Woodford, meanwhile, just made his first MLB start of 2024 on May 28 — which didn’t go well — after struggling at the minor-league level. The Red Sox are merely 31-31, but this has the makings of a one-sided affair when you simply boil it down to the pitchers who are chucking on Thursday.
When you start to take stock of the offenses they’re facing on Thursday via the Team Splits tab in the DraftKings Sportsbook’s Stats Hub, some betting options become clear:

On top of their 23.3% strikeout rate, .120 ISO and .276 wOBA, the White Sox also have a .279 OBP against right-handed pitching. That puts quite a few Houck props in play:
- Over 6.5 strikeouts at +110
- Over 18.5 outs recorded at +125
- Under 5.5 hits allowed at -130
Of the bunch, my preferred option is outs recorded. While Houck hasn’t recorded an out in the seventh inning in consecutive starts this season, he’s in quite the groove right now. Over his last three starts, he’s posted a 0.90 ERA and 1.94 WHIP. The White Sox showed off some power vs. the Cubs recently, but that’s not something they can maintain. Against a right-hander like Houck, they’ll come back down to Earth.

As for the hitters in this game, here’s a look at how some of them have performed over their last five games against their hits line for Thursday’s matchup via the Consistency Sheets in the DraftKings Sportsbook Stats Hub:

There are quite a few Red Sox hitters that are worth consideration to go over 1.5 total bases. Tyler O’Neill logged two hits in his return and has a .232 ISO against righties this season. He’s +110 to log at least two total bases. Rafael Devers and Jaren Duran both have an ISO against righties over .245, and they have nearly the same odds as one another to go over 1.5 total bases as a result (-130 and -125, respectively).
Ultimately, though, I am going to ride the hot hand with longer odds. Rob Refsnyder (o1.5 total bases +115) has been putting in great work over the last eight games, which has bumped his average to .337 and OPS to .919. Against righties specifically, he’s hitting .327 with a .917 OPS, .400 wOBA and .190 ISO.
