Boston Red Sox at Chicago White Sox
The Pick: Boston Red Sox run line -130
Betting against the White Sox is always an advisement. This team is currently on a 13 game LOSING STREAK, last earning a dub back on May 21st. Over that span, they’ve lost by at least two runs in 10 of those 13 games. They’ll be sending Jake Woodford who’ll be making just his second start of the year. who’ll be making just his second start of the year. Looking back last season, he had a 6.23 EA with a 7.04 xERA with just a 5.4 K/9 and a 4.1 BB/9. He mainly focused on a sinker, which is a pitch the Sox have done well with. Tonight’s expected lineup for the Red Sox has a combined .350 wOBA against that pitch. As you can imagine, the White Sox have been one of the worst teams on the run line, with a 26-36 record. For a team that is averaging under three runs per game on the season, I think the Red Sox cover the -1.5 tonight.
San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
The Pick: San Diego Padres team total over 4.5 runs +120
Currently, the Padres team total is set at 3.5 at -145 as I write this early Thursday morning. I’m willing to go up a run to 4.5 at +120 because I think the Padres are in a really good spot against Slade Cecconi and the D-Backs bullpen. Cecconi will be facing the Padres for the second time this season after allowing six runs on five hits through 4.1 innings. This is because Cecconi mainly throws only two pitches, a four seam fastball and a slider. Those combine to be thrown 78% of the time. Against those pitches, the Padres have a combined .367 wOBA and a .335 wOBA against those respectively. Cecconi also allows a ton of fly balls, currently at a 56% rate.
Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals
The Pick: Marcell Ozuna over 1.5 bases -115
Ozuna is having an absurd season thus far, slashing .309/.387/.599 with a .421 wOBA, 17 home runs and 53 RBI. He’s specifically been a force against lefties, where he has a .443 wOBA, a .218 ISO and a 190 wRC+. Tonight, he’s going against Mitchell Parker, who throws a fastball as his main pitch. Ozuna has a .392 wOBA and a .206 ISO against that pitch. Ozuna has also been bumped up in the lineup with the loss of Ronald Acuna Jr, as he’s been seeing some time hitting third instead of his customary spot in the fifth spot.
