The Washington Commanders start anew this season, with a new head coach in former Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and a new starting quarterback in 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels. The Commanders had the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after going 4-13 and finishing last in the NFC East. This offseason, they lost wide receiver Curtis Samuel but signed RB Austin Ekeler to improve their rushing attack.

Biggest offensive NFL Draft additions
Jayden Daniels is obviously the most significant among the draft additions, and the Commanders traded away former starter Sam Howell in anticipation of the rookie’s arrival. They added tight end Ben Sinnott in the second round out of Kansas State as a backup for the aging veteran Zach Ertz, and drafted wide receiver Luke McCaffrey out of Rice in the third round. Rice is interestingly listed as the third wide receiver on the Commanders’ depth chart heading into the season, fairly high for a third-rounder.
Player most impacted by NFL Draft for fantasy football
Ertz could be outshined by Sinnott this season, depending on how things play out. Ertz has been dealing with injuries of his own throughout the last several seasons, and the Commanders were smart to get a dependable backup at the position. If Daniels plays out as Washington hopes, we will see Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson’s fantasy ceilings quickly rise this season as his top two targets.
