Is this the best version of Kyrie Irving we’ve ever seen?

The Mavs may have lost Game 4, but Dallas remains in the driver’s seat in the Western Conference Finals going into Game 5 on Thursday in Minnesota. And that’s largely due to the inspired play of Kyrie Irving.

Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett joined Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson to discuss Kyrie on the latest episode of All The Smoke Unplugged.

Matt notes that it’s never been a question of his ability on the court, but rather his happiness or peace of mind. Putting all of that aside, Matt says we’re seeing the best Kyrie Irving we’ve seen and the combination of Kyrie and Luka Doncic have been incredible. So Matt wants to know what Stak thinks has been the key to the beautiful basketball Kyrie has been playing. He says Kyrie is in the best possible situation and the key has been the Mavericks letting Kyrie be Kyrie.

KG says Kyrie looks like he’s at peace. He thinks Kyrie has said less and saying less has helped him. And honestly, Brooklyn is a different climate than Dallas, KG points out. So KG thinks it was good that Kyrie was able to change up his environment. However, as KG notes, during this whole run Kyrie’s peace has not been disturbed. But if the Mavs can close out the Timberwolves, Kyrie will be shipping up to Boston, a city and a fanbase he has had a very fraught relationship with. So KG says the narrative is there for Kyrie’s peace to be disturbed, can he keep his peace in this hectic environment?
