The 2024 conference finals are about to begin with the Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks left in the playoff field. The Celtics hold the No. 1 overall seed and will have homecourt advantage over the Pacers, while the No. 3 seed Timberwolves have taken out the defending champions Nuggets to have homecourt advantage over the Mavericks. Celtics forward Jayson Tatum is the favorite with his team carrying -150 odds to win the title, but Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards and Dallas’ Luka Doncic are intriguing options. After all, Boston hasn’t faced a top-tier team yet in the playoffs and has folded in key moments. Edwards just led the Timberwolves past the defending champions, while Doncic appears ready to finally reach the Finals. It might be worth waiting until the winner of Timberwolves-Mavericks is known but Edwards and Doncic both offer more value than Tatum in my opinion at this stage.
Kyrie Irving is a nice longshot at +3500, and would certainly be a good option outside of Doncic should the Mavericks make the Finals. Irving has famously never lost a closeout game in the playoffs and has experience winning a title with the Cavaliers. He’s been quiet offensively relative to Doncic but there’s no time like the last series of the season to explode. He’s worth backing if he gets the chance to compete for the title.
