The third Saturday in May is here, and with it comes the 149th Run for the Black-Eyed Susans as the 2024 Preakness Stakes gets underway on May 18 at Pimlico in Baltimore, Maryland. The post time set for 6:50 p.m.
The favorite is the Kentucky Derby winner out of the No. 5 post in Mystik Dan, with 5-2 morning line odds set by Pimlico oddsmaker Keith Feustle. The Kenny McPeek trainee held on by a nostril to win the biggest prize in American thoroughbred racing, and will now go for true immortality and the triple crown. A 101 speed figure at Churchill Downs was solid, but not necessarily uncatchable by the rest of the field today.
The second-best odds see both No. 3 Catching Freedom and No. 9 Imagination check in at 6-1. Freedom finished fourth at the Kentucky Derby, but has three victories in his last six starts. Imagination is a Bob Baffert trainee, his only mount after Muth was scratched due to injury. The San Felipe Stakes winner finished second in the Santa Anita Derby in his last start, though it was a painfully slow pace in SoCal.
Here are the post positions, trainers, jockeys, and morning line odds for the entire field of the 2024 Preakness Stakes from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.
