Opening week of the 2024 WNBA season will continue on tonight and the first Friday night slate will feature the Washington Mystics visiting the Connecticut Sun. Tonight’s game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will air on Ion.
Washington (0-1) dropped its season opener on Tuesday, falling to New York in an 85-80 setback. The Mystics saw their eight-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter slip away as the Liberty stormed out to a 16-4 run to pull ahead. Brittney Sykes was a difference maker in the loss, putting up 14 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists.
Connecticut (1-0) spoiled the Caitlin Clark party in its season opener on Tuesday, thrashing Indiana in a 92-71 rout. The Sun was able to take advantage of sloppy play by the Fever, forcing 25 turnovers in the process. Alyssa Thomas finished second in MVP voting last year and picked right up from where she left off by providing 13 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds.
Connecticut enters the game as an 8.5-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook, accompanied by a total of 158. The Sun are listed as a -440 moneyline favorite, making the Mystics a +275 underdog.
Mystics vs. Sun, 7:30 p.m. ET
Pick ATS: Sun -8.5
The Mystics let their season opener against the Liberty slip away and while it was impressive that nearly won without Elena Delle Donne, I think they’ll be in for a long night tonight. The Sun are on a mission to establish themselves as a WNBA title contender once again and they’re going to be a tough out with MVP candidate Alyssa Thomas locked in. Give me Connecticut to cover as a heavy favorite this evening.
Over/Under: Over 158
Washington managed to put up 80 points on Tuesday despite shooting under 40% from the field. A more efficient night should lead to similar numbers, so I’ll take the over to cash in this one.
