Air Jordan 11 Low “Space Jam”: Sneaker Release Date, Price, Where To Buy

Michael Jordan is known for many clutch moments. The Shot over Craig Ehlo in 1989. His 6 3-pointers in the first half of Game 1 of the 1992 NBA Finals vs. the Blazers. His flu game performance in the 1997 finals vs. the Jazz. And of course, his “last shot” (that turned out not to be) to win the 1998 NBA Finals against those same Jazz.

But who could forget the time he helped the Tune Squad beat the Monstars in the cinematic classic, Space Jam, in 1996.

Jordan Brand is bringing back memories of this seminal movie moment with its release of the Air Jordan 11 Low “Space Jam” on Saturday for $190.

As I’ve written about before, the Air Jordan 11 is one of — if not the — best Air Jordan models of all time. The 11 was designed by design GOAT Tinker Hatfield, who considers this model his greatest work. The 11 was revolutionary when it was released in 1996, with the combination of a Cordura mesh upper, patent leather and a carbon fiber shank plank setting it apart from any other shoe on the market at the time. These were sneakers that could be worn with suits — which MJ predicted despite Tinker’s disbelief. People have worn them to proms, weddings and most famously Boyz II Men wore them to the Grammys. And to think, they almost never happened. The way Tinker has recounted the 11’s origin story, as he began the design process the higher-ups at Nike thought the Air Jordan line was done and told him to stop work on the model. Thankfully, Tinker soldiered on and created a true masterpiece that would be worn during MJ’s masterpiece revenge season in 1995-96 which saw the Bulls go 72-10 and kick off their second three-peat of the 1990s.

The 11s actually made their debut early, during the 1995 NBA Playoffs as MJ’s Bulls took on the Penny-Shaq Magic. Jordan was given a sample pair and loved them so much that he decided to wear them on the court, despite Tinker’s pleas not to since they weren’t ready for release. But they were also famously part of MJ’s starring turn in Space Jam, as seen above. Saturday’s release is a low-cut version of the famed “Space Jam” colorway, which first released in 2000 and not with the OG colorways in 1996. This drop notably will represent the first time since that 2000 release that we see “JUMPMAN JAM” on the center tongue tag rather than the traditional “JUMPMAN JORDAN” branding that is usually found on the model. Some might ask why release these in a low cut? However, MJ actually played many games subtly in low-cut versions of his main game model over the years, including the 11s. So it makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

In addition to the “JUMPMAN JAM” branding on the tongue, this release plays all the familiar Air Jordan 11 hits, just in a low cut rather than the traditional mid cut. Black Cordura mesh upper? Check. Black patent leather? Check. In addition, these Space Jam 11 lows feature royal blue accents, a white midsole, an icy translucent outsole, what SNKRS terms a “carbon fiber-like underlay” and the Jumpman and signature No. 23 shrunken down on the back heel. Basically, this model has everything a longtime Jordan fan could want in a Space Jam 11, just with a lower cut.

The Air Jordan 11 Low doesn’t traditionally get the same level of hype as the annual holiday mid-cut retro release, but given the history of this colorway and the return of the “JUMPMAN JAM” branding, this will likely be the exception to the rule. The Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam” last returned in 2016 and has an average sales price of $447 on StockX on 93 sales, which represents a 76% price premium. This 2024 “Space Jam” 11 Low is currently available on StockX and has an average sales price of $218 on 142 sales. So, I don’t think this will be a shoe that you could flip for a major profit, but it will be popular enough that it should go quick on release day. Best of luck to anyone looking to pick up a pair!
