Is the PGA Championship over before it really even started? World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler holed out from the fairway for an eagle in the first hole of the first round of the major at Valhalla Golf Club. Any concerns about the new dad losing sleep — or losing his edge — in the last few weeks can be put to rest. The 2024 Masters winner, who entered this week as the favorite to win the PGA Championship, is off to a hot start.

Scheffler’s driving has been both remarkable and consistent all year, and his short play recently improved when he introduced a new putter to his club lineup. He has won four of his last five starts, and finished with a T2 in the fifth. He’s also the favorite at +400 to win his second-straight major.
Xander Schauffele leads the field at -9 as the first round continues. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to delay the tournament on Friday.
