The 2024 PGA Championship tees off this week from Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The field includes some big stories — Rory McIlroy has not won a major since 2014, when he won the PGA Championship at Valhalla and the Open Championship. Scottie Scheffler is expected to play shortly after becoming a new dad — his wife’s upcoming labor was the talk of the town at Augusta. And LIV’s Brooks Koepka is on the hunt for his second consecutive and fourth all-time Wanamaker Trophy.
Scheffler enters as the favorite at +400 at DraftKings Sportsbook, with McIlroy following at +750 and Koepka installed at +1400. Xander Schauffele, Jon Rahm, Ludvig Aberg, and 2023 runner-up Viktor Hovland join the field, as well. Phil Mickelson won the tournament in 2021 and returns to the field with long odds, and four-time winner Tiger Woods will tee off at Valhalla after making the Masters cut in April. Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa will also be names to watch this week in Louisville.
Golfers have several paths that allow them to earn an invitation to the PGA Championship. Any former winner of the tournament has a lifetime exemption, and any golfer who has won another major tournament in the last five years also receives an invite. The top 15 finishers and ties from last year’s PGA Championship get invited, as do the top 70 players who have earned the most PGA Championship points. There are also golfers who receive a special invitation, even if they don’t qualify for any exemptions.
