There have not been a lot of days the past few seasons in which the Atlanta Braves have not been in the lead in the National League East standings and will look to take a step in getting back to the top spot on Saturday when they go on the road to face the New York Mets.
Atlanta Braves (-155, 7) vs. New York Mets
Max Fried gets the start on the mound for Atlanta, who’s 7.5 strikeouts per nine innings this season is on pace to be a career-worst for him while also posting a 4.23 ERA with 3.3 walks per nine innings.
Behind him is a Braves offense that in 2024 led the league in both runs and home runs per game and though the team’s power numbers are down, ranking ninth in the league in home runs per game entering the series, the Braves are still fourth in run production with nearly 5.1 runs per game.
The Mets power numbers are on-par with those of the Braves, ranking 10th entering the series in home runs per game and 14th in overall runs per game, looking to provide support for rookie Christian Scott in his second career MLB pitching start.
Scott allowed just one walk and one run in 6 2/3 innings in his MLB debut against the Tampa Bay Rays but had issues with hard contact at the AAA level this season, allowing seven home runs in 25 1/3 innings for AAA Syracuse this season.
Though both teams enter Saturday with bullpens in the top 10 in area, both lineups will get to the starting pitchers and turn Saturday’s game into a hit parade.
