How good was the Roast of Tom Brady?

Sunday night brought us an event that finally diverted our collective attention away from the never-ending Drake vs. The World rap beef. Of course, I’m talking about the Roast of Tom Brady.

The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz obviously had some thoughts.

Dan notes that he loves the roast as a comedy vehicle and there were a number of jokes told on Sunday that he thought weren’t allowed anymore. Stugtoz agrees, noting that he was surprised that Brady allowed people to go to certain places.

Amin says people loved that roast because they’ve been starving for something that feels real. You know what our current climate reminds Amin of? That cinematic classic, Demolition Man!

Dan says it was a big night for podcasters, if not for the mainstream media. He also says he would not be comfortable doing what Brady did on Sunday night, especially when it comes to his personal life even if, as Stugotz points out, you have to know that is coming when you sign up for the gig.

What did Dan think was the most honest and interesting moment of the night? Jeffrey Ross doing the thing that he’s most known for … and Brady almost immediately shutting it down because it came at the expense of his buddy Robert Kraft.

Former Patriots quarterback — and the man that Brady replaced to begin his Hall of Fame career — Drew Bledsoe joined the crew later in the show and assured everyone that Brady shutting down the Kraft joke was not a bit.

Dan says Dominique Foxworth told him Bledsoe did the best among all the athletes who roasted Brady on Sunday night. So Dan wants to know, when was the last time the former Pro Bowler was that nervous? Drew admits he was a little nervous as it was high stakes with a lot of really funny people up on the dais, but he felt at least a little bit prepared. And he notes that taking down the other athletes isn’t the same as taking down Nikki Glazer. Although perhaps if we took the comedians and put them on the football field, we’d find that the athletes did better at comedy than the comedians would do at football.

Drew said some of the jokes were so rapid-fire and so fast, he actually can’t wait to go back and re-watch the roast. He also walked away with the thought that Glazer is an absolute killer when she gets up there. And of course, Gronk did a great job being Gronk. Drew also got his chance to get in his jabs at his one-time backup.

At the risk of getting into a lot of trouble, Drew revealed that his WIFE helped him with the jokes about Brady’s divorce from supermodel Gisele Bundchen. But hey, as Jessica points out, Brady might go out and get married tomorrow in an attempt to get to a 28th wedding anniversary to prove Drew wrong. Never bet against him!
