Post positions, morning line odds for the 2024 Kentucky Derby

The first Saturday in May is just one week away, and with it comes the 150th Run for the Roses. The 2024 Kentucky Derby runs on May 4 at Churchill Downs, with a post time set for 6:57 p.m.

The favorite is the No. 17 horse Fierceness, with 5/2 morning line odds set by track oddsmaker Mike Battaglia. The Todd Pletcher trainee dogwalked the field in the Florida Derby, posting a gaudy 107 speed figure for his third career win in five starts. A maiden win on the mud at Saratoga last August might be good for a tough track in Louisville today as well.

The second-best odds belong to Sierra Leone in the No. 2 position. With three wins in four starts, the Chad Brown horse took the Grade I Blue Grass Stakes exactly 28 days ago at Keeneland. The scion of Gun Runner and Heavenly Love was bred in Kentucky, and beat a good portion of this field in Lexington just four weeks ago.
