After a light Thursday schedule, the MLB is back with a full 15-game slate on Friday, May 3. There’s only one early game with a first pitch before 6:40 p.m. ET, so there’s plenty of time to go through the matchups and try and find the best player prop bets you can. With that in mind, here are our best MLB player props for Friday, May 3 with odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
Teddy Ricketson’s 2024 MLB Player Prop record: 31-31-3
Thursday recap: The reads were right on Thursday as we went 3/3 in our player prop bets. Spencer Arrighetti had a better outing from what we have seen this season but still finished with three walks. Andres Gimenez continued being free money on his hit props and went 2-4 with an RBI. Carlos Rodon got rocked by the Baltimore Orioles allowing seven runs (six earned) in just four innings, but he still struck out six before his early exit.
MLB player prop bets: Friday, May 3
Tanner Houck, 5+ strikeouts (-265)
Houck and the Boston Red Sox will take on the Minnesota Twins on Friday. The Boston starter has been good this year tallying a 3-2 record with a 1.60 ERA. He has struck out 41 batters in 39.1 innings of work. Houck has struck out at least five batters in four of his six starts this season, including fanning nine his last time out. Minnesota averages the seventh-most strikeouts per game (9.30).
Mookie Betts, over 0.5 hits (-240)
Betts leads the MLB with his .377 batting average and is usually good to take when his prop bet is the over/under of a single hit. He and the Los Angeles Dodgers will take on veteran starting pitcher Charlie Morton and the Atlanta Braves. Betts has plenty of history against Morton and heads into Friday’s matchup 13-39 with two doubles and a home run against him.
Sonny Gray, over 17.5 outs recorded (-175)
This is a high line and in order to hit it, Gray will need to make it through at least six full innings on the mound. He should be able to pull it off against the MLB-worst 6-25 Chicago White Sox. Gray enters with a 3-1 record and a 1.16 ERA. He has pitched at least six innings in three of his four starts this season. The lone concern is his pitch count getting away from him early, but he should be able to record at least 18 outs.
