The 2024 wide receiver draft class is led by Marvin Harrison Jr., Rome Odunze and Malik Nabers. It’s a deeper class than most people realize, and there should be more wideouts hearing their names called in the first round than just the top three. Georgia WR Ladd McConkey is one of those players who could be drafted toward the end of the first round or early on day two.
McConkey arrived at Georgia in 2020, but didn’t play any during the COVID-19 season. He played in a total of 39 games over the last three years and finished his career with 1,687 yards and 14 touchdowns.

NFL analyst Lance Zierlein has McConkey as a second-round pick and compares him to Elijah Moore.
McConkey has the footwork and body control to snap off crisp breaks and open windows for his quarterback. He can manipulate coverage with an advanced feel for leverage and has enough top-end speed to get past cornerbacks who are non-believers. He might not be sudden enough to beat press and will need to prove he has enough play strength to finish contested catches against tight man. McConkey’s 2023 injuries might have slowed the draft conversation about him, but his route polish, athleticism and ability to uncover over the first two levels could make him a productive slot receiver as a Day 2 pickup.
Mock Draft landing spots
ESPN’s Jordan Reid has McConkey going to the Los Angeles Chargers with the 37th pick in the draft. Field Yates, agrees that McConkey is a second-round pick, but has him falling a little further to the Indianapolis Colts at No. 46.
Fantasy football implications
McConkey’s landing spot is going to determine his draft stock in dynasty leagues. Being a rookie wide receiver and not projecting to have a WR1 role will leave him undrafted in redraft leagues. His dynasty standing will likely be determined by whether or not you need a wide receiver, but with the playmakers in better spots, McConkey will likely fall to the middle of the second round of rookie drafts.
