The 2024 NFL Draft will take place from Thursday, April 25 through Saturday, April, 27 from Hart Plaza in Detroit. BYU offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia has been creeping up draft boards over the past few months and could hear his name called early on Day 2.

Beginning his college career at Oregon 2021, Suamataia transferred to BYU following his freshman season. It was there where he put himself on draft radars as a redshirt freshman in 2022, starting all 12 games for the Cougars and not allowing a single sack. He’d follow that up with a strong 2023 campaign where he earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors, yielding just two sacks in 11 games.

Kingsley Suamataia: Scouting Report

NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein critiqued him for his sloppy hand placement, but noted that he is quick enough to be effective in outside zone schemes. Here’s part of his assessment:

… He has good size and adequate play strength, but sloppy hand placement limits control and consistency as both a run and pass blocker. Suamataia could struggle to handle NFL edge speed in pass protection, but he’s quick enough for move-blocking duties in outside zone and in space. He can redirect and mirror counters when he’s postured up and appears capable of dealing with bull rushers. The tape is more solid than spectacular, but Suamataia has the ability to become an average starting tackle on the right side.

Mock Draft landing spots

Suamataia has been projected to go in the early to middle portions of the second round. Zierlein as well as CBS’ Chris Trapasso have projected him to be taken by the Washington Commanders while John Kosko and Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus projects him to the Las Vegas Raiders.
